Barbecue Pizza with Marinated Tempeh and Pineapple

Make your barbecue sauce and use it with
your choice of toppings. Chargrilled barbecue
pizza is excellent to enjoy with friends on
winter nights.

Ingredient List:
To make the dough
• 3 ½ cup all-purpose flour
• 1 cup of water
• 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
• 1/3 cup vegetable oil
• ½ teaspoons salt
To make barbecue sauce
• ¼ cup Maple syrup
• 3 tablespoons Tomato ketchup
• 1 tablespoon blackstrap molasses
• 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
• ½ teaspoons lime juice
• 2 teaspoons liquid smoke (alternatively
use smoke chips according to sellers
• ¼ teaspoons tamarind paste
• 1 teaspoon soy sauce ¼ teaspoons
mustard powder
• ¼ teaspoons garlic powder
• ¼ teaspoons ginger powder
• ¼ teaspoons onion powder
• ¼ teaspoons cumin powder
• ¼ teaspoons cayenne pepper
• ¼ teaspoon Smoked Paprika (to taste)
• Black pepper to season
• Salt to season
For the topping
• 2 onions cut into rings
• 7 oz. Tempeh (Marinated in BBQ sauce
for 1-4 hours)
• 1 cup pineapple (diced)
• 8-10 basil left, chopped
• 1 tablespoon thyme, finely chopped
• 1 teaspoon lemon juice
• 2 teaspoons of sugar
• 2 tablespoons oil
• Basil leaves for garnish
How to Cook:
To make the dough
1. In a large bowl, add yeast to a cup of warm
water. Keep aside for 5 minutes.
2. Mix in oil, flour, and salt. Stir slowly with
a spatula until the dough comes together.
3. Cover the bowl and keep it in a warm place
for 1 hour.
4. Punch the dough and rest for 5 minutes.
Stretch the dough on greased parchment
paper to make a circular base. Make sure to
keep the edges slightly thicker than the rest of
the circle.
6. To make barbecue sauce, mix all
ingredients to make about 1 cup of BBQ

7. In a saucepan, heat oil and sauté onions till
8. Add sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir and cook
till the onion juices are evaporated.
9. Turn off the heat and add lemon juice and
thyme. Rest covered till use.
To assemble the pizza¬
10. Spread the thin layer of BBQ sauce on the
stretched dough base.
11. ¬Spread caramelized onions evenly.
Layer with marinated tempeh and pineapple
12. Sprinkle basil leaves and bake for 18
minutes in an oven preheated to 450°F.
13. Garnish with whole basil leaves and serve
