Caramel apple bars

2 cups flour
2 cups oats
1 1/4 cups butter
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 cups ice cream topping
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
2 cups apples, chopped
1. Preheat the oven to 347° F. Grease a square 20 x 20 cm baking
2. In large bowl, combine 2 cups flour, 2 cups instant oats, brown
sugar, baking soda, and melted butter. Mix well until the
mixture is crumbled. Bake for about 8 minutes in the preheated
3. In a small sauce pan, combine the caramel topping and 1/2 cup
flour. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly, and boil
for 2 – 3 minutes until the mixture is slightly thickened. Don’t
forget to stir constantly while boiling.
4. Spread the chopped nuts and apples on top of the baked crust.
Then carefully pour over the caramel mixture and sprinkle with
the reserved half of the crumbly mixture.
5. Bake until golden brown. Allow the mixture to cool down
completely before cutting it into pieces.
6. It will be easier to cut the mixture if you keep it in the
refrigerator for about 30 minutes before cutting.
