Pokemon Go Winter Holiday 2023 Event Guide

Pokemon Gos”Winter holidays” event is back for 2023 and split between two parts, as usual. The the first part of the event runs from December 18-25 and that the second part runs from December 25-31.



This event comes with bonus XP and Stardust from opening gifts in both parts. There is also a benefit of either double-catch XP or double-catch Stardust, depending on what you choose in a timed research.

(Oath. note: Since the second part of the event takes place during a holiday, this post may not be fully updated with information about Part 2 until we return on December 27th.)

Below we list all timed research, along with other benefits from Pokemon Go The “Winter Holiday” 2023 event below.


Pokemon Go ‘Winter Holiday’ 2023 Event Timed Research: ‘Winter Wishes’

This research is ongoing until the event ends on December 31st.

Step 1 of 2

  • Catch 5 Pokemon (1 Glacial Lure Module)
  • Spin 3 PokéStops or Gyms (Encounter with Pikachu (Holiday Wear))
  • Beat Pokemon 5 times (2 Silver Pinap Berry)

Rewards: 500 Stardust, 500 XP

After this step, you will be given a choice: catch Pokemon or collect Stardust. Whatever you choose matters beyond the task you get next. If you choose to catch Pokemon, you get double the catching XP, while if you choose to go after Stardust, you get double the catching Stardust. Choose what you need!

Step 2 of 2

  • Catch 10 Pokemon Encounters (Spheal (Holiday Scarf))
  • Catch 25 Pokemon (Eevee (holiday hat) encounter)
  • Catch 40 Ice-type Pokemon (Lapra’s Encounter)
  • Catch 8 different species of ice-type Pokemon (stantler (holiday collar) encounters)
  • Earn 25,000 XP (capturing) or earn 7,500 Stardust (Stardust) (Cetoddle encounter)
  • Send 25 gifts to friends (Ratify meeting)

Rewards: Galarian Mr. Mime encounter, 1 Lucky Egg or Star Piece

If you chose XP, you get a Lucky Egg as a reward. If you chose Stardust, you get a Star Piece.


Pokemon Go ‘Winter Holiday’ 2023 Event Timed Research: ‘Frosty Festivities’

This is a paid research, so you must purchase a ticket from the store for $4.99. You can find out if you think it’s worth buying from the rewards below. (If you’re into special poses and costumed Pokemon, it’ll probably be worth it to you.) Niantic’s event page notes that you’ll also get double candy from catching Pokemon if you buy this ticket, too. Note that it is still timedmeaning it expires at the end of the event.

  • Spin 10 PokéStops (Encounter with Cubchoo (Holiday Band))
  • Catch 25 Ice-type Pokémon (Spheal (holiday scarf) encounters)
  • Make 20 Curveball Throws (Pikachu Encounter (Holiday Wear))

Rewards: Galarian Mr. Mime meeting, Winter Pose

Step 2 of 4

  • Use 20 berries to catch Pokemon (Stantler (holiday collar) encounter)
  • Transfer 25 Pokemon (Delibird Encounter (Holiday Band))
  • Catch 30 Ice-type Pokémon (Eevee (holiday hat) encounter)

Rewards: Lapras encounter, 3 Silver Pinap Berries

Step 3 of 4

  • Make 30 Curveball Throws (Encounter with Cubchoo (Holiday Band))
  • Send 10 gifts to friends (Spheal (holiday scarf) meeting)
  • Catch 40 Ice-type Pokemon (Pikachu (Holiday Wear) Encounters)

Rewards: Glaceon (holiday outfit) encounter, 1 incense

Step 4 of 4

  • Transfer 30 Pokémon (Stantler Encounter (Holiday Collar))
  • Explore 5 km (meet with Delibird (holiday band))
  • Catch 50 Ice-type Pokémon (Eevee (holiday hat) encounter)

Rewards: Psyduck (holiday outfit) encounter, 1 Egg Incubator

These are also paid research tasks that expire at the end of the event. You get both research for $1.99, and the tasks and rewards are practically the same, according to sources like LeekDuck and Serebii.net. You can see what both research sets reward below:

Spinning PokéStops during the event period can earn you one of these event field research tasks:

  • Catch 5 different species of Pokemon (Delibird (holiday band) or Spheal (holiday scarf) encounter)
  • Catch 5 Ice-type Pokémon (5 Poké Balls, 5 Pinap Berries, 5 Razz Berries or 3 Ultra Balls)
  • Catch 7 ice-type Pokémon (Shellder, Snover or Vanillite encounter)
  • Catch 10 different species of Pokemon (Encounter with Jynx or Cubchoo (Holiday Band))
  • Open 5 gifts (Pikachu (holiday clothes) or encounter with Alolan Sandshrew)
  • Send 3 gifts and add a sticker to each (Crabrawler encounter, 25 Abomasnow Mega Energy or 25 Glalie Mega Energy)
  • Win a raid (Encounter in Lapras or Encounter with Glaceon (Winter Clothes))

Eggs from PokéStops during the event period have a chance to give you one of the following:

  • Eevee (holiday hat)
  • Smooch
  • Galarian Darumaka
  • Amaura

Starting with Part 2 of the event, the Psyduck (Holiday Wear) will also be available for purchase in 2km Eggs.
